Is It Time For Andy Gray?

Andy Gray has been a very naughty boy. The country is currently divided down the middle on the issue of sexism, this is as a result of the comments made by Sky Sport's football pundit Andy Gray on Sunday. Gray was heard off air but mic-on complaining to fellow presenter Richard Keys about the female lines-woman who was officiating the game.

Gray was caught saying that female officials should not be allowed in the game and that it was a disgrace they were allowed to have such responsibility, Keys agreed with him. The day after their conversation was published to news media around the world and fury ensued. Probably about time they both took Orlando Holidays to escape the public backlash I'd say.

Like others before him (Ron Atkinson anyone?) Andy Gray's jovial comments have proved costly. Yesterday he was sacked from Sky and it will find it difficult to find another job in broadcasting. Sky essentailly cannot be blamed for the sacking, being in the public eye they must be seen to be doing what is right for common decency.

So that's that. Or is it? Gray's comments have not just triggered debate within the world of football, but around the issue of sexism as a whole, it's place in society and what should be tolerated in public and in private. The effect this has had is empowering for women, since there are calls for more females in official positions. One thing is certain, Gray won't be splashing out on Caribbean Holidaysand Las Vegas Holidays anymore! In fact Gray may have to ration his admittedly large earnings wisely now as he will find it difficult to find work in this profession now, lucky he was near retirement age.
