Western Electronic Digital Elements 1TB Critique
When it comes to backup drives, I'm very black-and-white. Either a drive is 100% reliable or is worthless -- that is to say, I would rather not have any backup than to have unreliable, undependable backup. After my own extensive research and due diligence about consumer-grade backup solutions, I decided to buy the Western Digital Elements 1TB.
The Western Digital Elements 1TB external hard drive is the no-frills, hassle-free external hard drive techies dream about. It has no fancy metal casing that's just going to add dollars to the price. Instead, what Western Digital offers is a minimalist, reliable device. The hard drive doesn't have any annoying pre-installed backup software that can't be turned off or uninstalled. Instead the plug-and-play ease allows you to start backing up your content in seconds after taking it out of the box.
First, the drive is appealing. The situation in this drive is sleek and small. The "activity" light is extremely unintrusive yet easy enough to see. Secondly, this drive is incredibly, very quiet. I've transferred thousands of files and hundreds of Gbs price of data and I honestly will need to go make sure it is really transferring the files because with normal room noise, this drive is indiscernible.
Whether it is not associated with your personal computer, or in the event the computer is off or perhaps standby, hard disk draws 0 watts. As soon as the computer is on, but is not accessing the disk, it draws 4 watts. When actively transferring files, it draws 6-7 watts. This explains why the case is definitely cool. It automatically spins down hard disk when inactive for a short time. This will spark a delay while you access it, however it's just a few seconds.
Listed below are some wonderful benefits with the Western Digital Elements 1TB:
* The drive is due to an awesome size
* The drive is quiet. No noise at all- no fans, no disk heads chattering, nothing.
* There won't be any fancy lights. You can find one little LED for the rear you never see. No fancy lights, flashing LEDs, fancy bar charts, nothing
* It uses a mini USB connector, but it is supplied with the drive
* No included software/firmware that you must fight with to delete
* No problems attaching to computer or just being identified by OS
Western Digital Elements 1TB is critical have for copying your files, simple to put in place, and also better to use! Strongly recommended and you may save yourself some dough and acquire it on Amazon at a cost less than $77 (40% discount) using the free postage.
XtremeMac InCharge Home USB charger for iOS devices (TUAW)
A couple of weeks ago, we ran a post about the release of the XtremeMac
InCharge Home USB charger (US$29.99) for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Now the
device is available in the wild, and one was sent to the sprawling TUAW Labs
for hands-on testing. Read on for a detailed look at this ultra-portable
charger for your favorite iOS device.
### Design
Let's face it -- if you try to put one of Apple's little power cubes into a
pocket, you're likely to be asked "is that a charger in your pocket or are you
not too happy to see me?" Yep, they make an awkward little bump in your
pocket, with the iPad's charger being a little larger and even more obtrusive.
XtremeMac managed to put a full 10W, 2.1A charger into an exceedingly thin
package. The InCharge Home USB charger, which features a glossy black front to
match your favorite iOS device screen, is just under a half of an inch thick
(12.7 mm). It's also extremely light, weighing in at just 1.6 ounces (45
grams). By comparison, Apple's standard iPad charger is an inch thick (25.4
mm) and weighs 2.3 ...
