The Mobile Phone has Come a Long Way From the 1970s!

The phenomenon that is the mobile phone is picking up pace every year.  It is hard to believe that the first phones, certainly in terms of today’s models, were around in the 1970s.   Gone are the days of the 1980s where a mobile phone was as large as a brick! The phones of today are predominantly based on the earlier models from the 1970s onwards.

Whereas many of the mobile phones were used solely for making telephone calls in those early days, the uses of the current mobile phone is far reaching. It could be said that whilst the older generation are intent on using the phones just to make calls, the younger generation are eager to use the variety of applications available.

Phones can be used for a whole myriad of uses as well as making calls from abroad or around the UK. Text messaging is a popular use for the modern phone. Predictive text is commonly used and the more astute people can do it with their eyes closed! Text messaging is used everyday and can be likened to the other phenomenon of messaging using the World Wide Web. It is approximated the mobile phone users send a mind-blowing 8 billion texts every day. Amazingly, more than 8 billion texts are sent from phones each day.

Modern mobiles also let people check football scores, catch up on the latest news, take photographs, listen to music and browse the internet.Phone providers are finding even more ways for the handset to be useful to the present generation as well as for the generations to come. Modern phones are leading the way in terms of technology; many of them can help users to locate a restaurant or petrol station, be used as a GPS tracking device or help to work out the amount to tip a waitress.

It is normal for people to customise their mobile to their own tastes. One way to do this is add a free ringtone or free theme to your mobile which reflects your interests and personality. There are many places to get these free ringtones and free themes. Some mobiles have these applications available on the handset itself; otherwise it is possible to download them from other sources. There are a lot of different free themes and free ringtones to choose and it is certain that you will find one that you want very quickly. These options are just a few of the ways people make their phones more fun and entertaining to use.

There are many packages to choose from when you buy a modernmobile. Pay-as-you-go is one option you can get for your phone; top-ups can be made by using a shop, your mobile itself, contacting your phone provider or using internet facilities. Alternatively you can get a monthly contract for your mobile which means you pay a set fee each month. You will find a lot of the packages you can get for your mobile will offer items including free music downloads, free texts or free calls; the hope is that it encourages users to make use of their mobile in other ways apart from phoning.

Mobile phones come in all shapes, sizes, colours and patterns. Many of the current phones are designed to be slimline and can easily fit into your pocket- unlike those bricks of yesteryear! With competition growing, mobile phone providers are eager to get the business and so they are making every effort to make sure that they are at the frontier of advanced technology.

How much more energy does a Plasma TV consumer compared to a LCD TV?

How much more energy does a Plasma TV consumer compared to a LCD TV? Everyone says Plasma consumes more energy than a LCD, but by how much? Twice as much as a LCD? Newer versions of plasmas are now 'Energy Certified", does that mean they still consumer more energy than LCD, but overall, does not take that much compared to a traditional CRT TV?

Traditional CRT and 'old' Plasmas are energy hogs. But what does that really end up meaning? Even poor performing sets from those types will only cost you like $40 a year more than an LCD. And that's like the worst case. So even a so-so set, and you're maybe looking at only $20 difference (per year). So its not really a huge deal.

As has already been mentioned, there are now Plasma sets which are energy star products. They can compete with the LCDs in terms of power consumption. Most of the good brands' latest models fall under this category (Panasonic, Samsung).

But technology stereotypes only hold so true anyway. Plasma or LCD doesn't really matter. Specific model number matters most. Not all models, other either technology, are made equal. There are LCDs that are power hogs.
